OpenAI announced that it has achieved $10 billion in annual revenue with the rise of its artificial intelligence-powered chatbot ChatGPT. The company achieved this data only three years after ChatGPT was launched in November 2022.
OpenAI achieved $10 billion in revenue
Only subscriptions from individual and enterprise versions of ChatGPT and application programming interface (API) sales were taken into account as revenue items. License agreements with Microsoft and other large-scale one-time agreements were excluded from this total.
Compared to the data for 2024, OpenAI’s annual recurring revenue was approximately $5.5 billion. In the last year, this figure has almost doubled, reaching $10 billion. However, the growth process was not limited to revenue growth alone; The company’s operational expenses have also increased significantly. It was reported that a loss of approximately $5 billion was written throughout 2024.
The company’s long-term revenue expectations are also quite remarkable. According to information not officially disclosed to the public but based on sources close to the matter, OpenAI aims to increase its annual revenue to $125 billion by 2029.
The $40 billion investment round completed in March 2025 shows the level of interest in OpenAI’s financial size and potential. The investment in question was recorded as one of the largest investment deals ever made among private enterprises in the technology field.
The increase in ChatGPT’s user base is also among the main factors supporting the company’s revenue growth. As of the end of March, the platform served 500 million weekly active users, while the number of subscribers within the scope of corporate solutions reached 3 million.
